Staying in the heart of Olympic fever @ Crowne Plaza London Docklands

Without a doubt, everyone I talk to in the hotel industry at the moment is talking about the Olympic Games and how this is effecting hotels in London.  They are intrigued as to what’s happening from everything from rates and availability to physical changes to operations procedures during the games.  With this in mind, I was really pleased to spend some time with the great team at Crowne Plaza London Docklands.  Their hotel couldn’t be closer to the Olympic buzz, with the hotel situated close to the olympic Stadium and the O2 Arena.  In this post, I will share with you some information about the hotel and my stay, and in the coming day’s I’ll be posting an interview with the hotels general manager to hear her insights into how the Olympics has influenced her operations.

So, to set the scene; this is a contemporary four star hotel offering accommodation in London’s thriving Docklands area.  The hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from the ExCel Exhibition Centre and close to Canary Wharf, London City Airport and the O2.  This business accommodation is the perfect Docklands conference venue and has nine modern purpose built meeting rooms, all with natural daylight and 210 contemporary en suite bedrooms.  The Quad Club on site offers guests excellent leisure facilities including a pool, modern gym and Spa offering relaxing beauty therapy treatments.  The hotel also boasts an AA Rosette-awarded Docklands Bar and Grill.

If I had only one point to get across about this hotel, it would be about the staff.  Quite often when I stay at a chain hotel I wouldn’t remember the staff.  But at this Crowne Plaza, all the staff are passionate about what they do and are committed to providing exceptional service.  All staff were so conversation-able and the restaurant staff were fantastic – warm, friendly and genuinely interested to take the time to sit down and talk to you.  I even learnt about one member of staff looking forward to the Olympics passing by – because he was off to get married straight afterwards!

The dedicated Olympics post interview with the hotels general manager will follow in the coming days.
